Here we are, in the parking lot of Albertsons, my favorite grocery store. Aurelia has just proven she can withstand an hour-long trip involving coupon-clipping, back-tracking and her mother's insane compulsion for having a complete, priced-out list. This was not her first trip, but I liked seeing her in the shopping cart, behaving, enjoying a free (perfectly-sized) sample I received in the mail yesterday.
They tell you not to shop while hungry. I think a new rule should be imposed: do not shop while pregnant. All I want to eat is milk and cereal--definitely not the most interesting (or expensive) of cravings. However, I bought 11 boxes of cereal today. I'm proud to say, thanks to a raincheck from last week's sold-out sale, enough coupons and a $5 catalina back, I only paid 0.98 per box, but still. My pantry says, are you serious? To enforce the new rule would be catastrophic, however. Not for any other reason than the remedy is to send Matthew to the store with his will to be done. He would not take coupons. He would not look for sales. He would certainly not store hop to go where the best price for an item may be. He would not even take a list! The horror! Overstocking my cupboards with breakfast foods and surprisingly tasty mashed potato pouches will be the bane of my second pregnancy for the sake of my sanity. My husband cannot be trusted with a shopping cart. So, a new rule to outdate the new rule: No grocery shopping while Matthew; pregnant ladies welcome, especially in the cereal aisle.
