So, looks like I resolved to sleep train and coerce the infant into sleeping through the night during a growth-spurt. What timing, O Mighty Universe!
I had three evenings off in a row (weird, right?), so it seemed like a perfect time to work on good ol' Ferber and rice cereal to get that kid outta my room and get me some extra sleep. Logical, right? ...Wrong! The idea is that teaching him to self-soothe and filling his belly up with gooey cereal (coupled with a "ghost-feeding" at 10 o'clock) will push him from his 5 pm bottle/7pm bedtime until 5ish in the morning. Oh, how wonderful does that sound? It seemed like a great plan. The results have not backed up this assumption; in fact, just the opposite.
On Tuesday, we integrated Thad into Aurelia's night time schedule... your basic bath, story, g'night. That part was fine. He loves the bath, he wants to eat the pages of Goodnight, Moon, and he only whimpered for about six minutes before conking out (still in our room). At ten, while still asleep, he got a bottle. Part two, check! Just when we think everything is going smoothly; this may actually be something easy (HA!), the little crackhead decides he is going to wake up at 1:30am. Clean diaper, full bottle, snooze. Back up at 5am, repeat. Back up, happy as a clam, at 7:30. Not at all what I had hoped for. Wednesday was a disaster. He ate at 4pm and promptly fell asleep in his crib at 5. He did not wake up at 8 to eat as expected, so we ghost-fed him at 10 before going to bed. No bath, no cereal; we knew it couldn't possibly be better than the night before. And is wasn't. He was up at midnight and 4am and 7:30. Attempt 3 to come tonight.
I feel terrible because this is my last baby, and I should be enjoying his babyhood. But I just want to sleep for 8 hours straight. He's kinda kickin' my ass.

Well... that dang "lack of sleep" part of babyhood kinda sucks... a lot... and no one misses that part when it's over. At least not if you are sane.
