Aurelia's Vocabulary

It is truly miraculous watching a person grow up. She's been only at it for sixteen months now, but the changes in her from week to week are awe-some. I love catching her doing things when she doesn't think anyone is looking. Yesterday, she was using her sippy cup to give her dolls a drink of water. Today, she was reading a book (upside-down) to herself, pointing adamantly at pictures saying "this... this... this" (which sounds more like "dith...dith...dith"). That very activity got me thinking about her gradual understanding of the English language, proving that my crazy narrating of every little thing is not so crazy after all.

Aurelia's Vocabulary at 16 months:

this
that
HI
Dada
hello
vroom
duck
cookie
cheese
banana (nana)
more
moo (like a cow)
baby
Mama
I love you (which sounds more like "ruruyoo" but we are pretty sure that's it because it's her return when we say "I love you")
dog
woof
blue
green
bye bye
book
uh-oh

And, even though she doesn't say the words, she knows her body parts (hair, eye, nose, ear, tummy, feet, toes). She also understands the rooms of the house (kitchen, living room, upstairs, downstairs). When it's a time of day, she knows where to go to get "serviced" (i.e. "do you want some lunch?" sends her running for her high chair and "are you ready for a nap" or "do you want to take a tubby (bath) means she goes to the stairs). She only gets her pacifiers when she is in bed, and she puts them away for me when it's time to get up and start our day. She knows some of her stuffed animals by name, mainly her Mickey Mouse. Her most recent (and longest running) favorite toy has been one of Matt's old cell phones. It has buttons on the front, but it also opens up to a full-buttoned keyboard. She is frequently fielding phone calls from Grandma and the President's Unicorn Ambassador, who makes promises he can't keep.

And there's an update on the girl child's growing uppings for ya!
