This Child

I know the majority of my posts seem to center around Aurelia; the girl one is just into everything. It's impossible for a day to go by when she doesn't do something worth mentioning to our readers (aka Grandma and Mema).

Today she was especially loving to me, and I do.not.know what that is all about. She is hugger, in general, which is the best... When she is sad or sick or just gets the urge, she'll crawl into my lap, and her tiny body fits into mine like a puzzle piece. I love it. And that's basically how I'm feeling today. I love her. I love combing my fingers through her hair and kissing the smooth skin of her chipmunk cheek. I love watching her get excited about something and exercise her new-found favorite thing--running towards it. (Her running is always accompanied by a staccatoed syllable as she bounced along.) I love hearing a word escape her lips for the first time, the realization that I haven't heard her say that before--I am witnessing a unique moment in her life--is a wonderful feeling. I know every mother feels this; I really like being part of this club.

And then there is Thaddeus. Clearly, a more mellow, loving boy than his sister ever was, it is really interesting that I am able to discern even this early differences in their personalities. I can see him as a toddler. When I was reading the baby books, certain factoids stuck out. Boys get hurt more often because they are fearless as babies. Girls tend towards more controlled activities. This vision of my children is the exact opposite. I can see Aurelia barreling head-on towards some-odd-thing, without care or concern of what obstacle-or-other may stand in her way. I can see Thad following behind, curious and cautious. Of course, my perceptions of a 4-month old's future are mere speculation, but Aurelia had mischief in her eyes from day one. Thad will be my sweet angel to the terror that is my Aurelia.

Funny things:
Speaking of Aurelia getting into mischief, she fell off a kitchen chair today while pretending a remote was a cell phone. She also ran full on into the front door in her excitement to go to the grocery store; her bang-covered forehead was just one inch away from being dented by the scary doorknob. We maintain that among everything else that he is, Thaddeus is a grinning fool.

That will be all.

  1. My two children are exactly the same personalities for first and second born! You think Thad will follow behind cautious...uh,uh...Aurelia's energy will rub off on him and he will follow suit. Believe me! You're going to have a fun ride :)
