Besides the incredible irony that dozens of area churches plant and promote symbols of fertility (eggs and bunnies) while simultaneously believing the sex is evil, Easter was fun this year. A friend of Matt's invited us to his brand of egg hunt, and Aurelia actually was able to implement the concept of pick up the egg, put it in the basket. Once she discovered what was in the eggs, she went a little bananas. I think today was the first day she has ever said "egg", and although she learns several new words each day, each one is still a beautiful sound in my ears. Thaddeus just watched in amazement and enjoyed the sunshine, even if his nose was a little red from the wind.
What I didn't realize, or perhaps just wasn't paying attention to, is that Easter is kind of like a mini-Christmas. When we were kids, my parents hid eggs in the house and a basket filled with goodies for each of us. There were toys and games as well as the candy. As a kid, it was just something that happened on Easter (and you know enough about me to know we weren't raised in a religion, so church wasn't a thing). As a parent now, I was putting together Easter baskets for my babies, and I realized how similar it was to that sparkly holiday at the end of December (traditions of which were also stolen from the poor pagans). Each of the kids got a big toy, a little stuffed animal and a basketful of candy, including but not limited to chocolate rabbits.
I also had a little fun "hiding" plastic eggs around the living room for Aurelia to find and beg to eat the contents first thing in the morning. All in all, we spent some time outdoors on a sunny Saturday, and despite being a tad whiny when denied her rightful ration of sugar, Aurelia enjoys a her a good commercialized, albeit stolen, holiday.
