Got a couple more random acts of kindness under my belt:
#7 Shoveled two neighbors' driveways
#8 Left quarters on two of the little rides at the mall, so some mother could indulge her kids
But, I find I am running into a bit of a dilemma: In my heart, I know the idea is that even small acts of consideration will have a ripple effect that can change the course of attitude and the relationship we have with our fellow people. The idea is that a smile can touch another person's day in such a way that they are moved to help someone else, and so on. But I want to do something BIG. When I was shoveling my neighbor's driveway, I looked down the street and thought I should do all of these! But, I only had one-a-half hours to shovel, shower, mop, clean the kitchen and fold a pile of laundry before nap time was over. (Plus, I'm not gonna lie, I was hoping to sit and watch some Bones.) So, one driveway didn't feel like enough, but it's all I had time to do... And, I only had a dollar's worth of coins for the quarter rides at the mall... But I hope that the concept is getting through to the recipients.

Just remember that what seems small (only one driveway vs. the whole street) to you IS big to the person who received the service! And yes, hopefully it will ripple and go on and on and such - not always probably, but for sure some of it.
ReplyDeleteYou inspire me. Small tasks are just as important as a big one. I wanted to follow your lead but sadly its not been an easy week for me. But I did get to half of a neighbors driveway last Monday when we had so much snow.
